About Noah

Noah was a righteous man who lived during a time of great wickedness and corruption on earth. According to the Book of Genesis, God saw that humanity had become thoroughly corrupt and violent, and He decided to cleanse the earth with a great flood. However, Noah found favor in God’s eyes because he was blameless among the people of his time and walked faithfully with God.

God instructed Noah to build an enormous ark of gopher wood, providing specific dimensions: 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high. The ark was to have three decks and a door in its side. Noah was commanded to bring his wife, his three sons—Shem, Ham, and Japheth—and their wives into the ark, along with two of every kind of animal, male and female, to preserve life on earth.

Noah spent many years building the ark while preaching repentance to his generation, though none heeded his warnings. When the construction was complete and all the animals and provisions were aboard, God sealed them in the ark. Rain fell for forty days and forty nights, and the floodwaters covered the entire earth, even the highest mountains, for 150 days. Every living thing on land perished except those in the ark.

After the waters receded, the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. Noah sent out a raven and later a dove to test whether the waters had subsided. When the dove returned with an olive leaf, Noah knew the waters were receding.

After the flood, God established a covenant with Noah, promising never again to destroy the earth with a flood, and set the rainbow in the sky as a sign of this covenant. Noah then planted a vineyard and became the father of all nations through his three sons. He lived 950 years according to Scripture, serving as a bridge between the antediluvian and post-flood world, and stands as a symbol of faith, obedience, and God’s mercy in preserving a righteous remnant.
