About Norbert of Xanten

Norbert founded the Premonstratensians (Norbertines), canons regular combining contemplative and pastoral life. After a conversion experience, he gave away his wealth and became an itinerant preacher. As Archbishop of Magdeburg, he reformed clergy and combated heresy. His order spread throughout Europe.
