Robert founded the Cistercian Order at Cîteaux, seeking to restore strict observance of the Benedictine Rule. His reform emphasized poverty, manual labor, and simplicity, rejecting Cluny's opulence. Though he returned to Molesme, his foundation grew into the influential Cistercian movement through Bernard of Clairvaux.
