Robert Bellarmine was a Jesuit cardinal, theologian, and Doctor of the Church. His "Controversies" defended Catholic doctrine against Protestantism. He was involved in the Galileo affair, advocating caution but not hostility to science. He wrote catechisms and spiritual works. Declared Doctor 1931.
