About Cyril of Alexandria

Cyril was Patriarch of Alexandria and Doctor of the Church, defending Christ's divinity and unity of person against Nestorius. At the Council of Ephesus (431), his theology prevailed, and Mary was declared Theotokos (God-bearer). Though controversial for harsh methods, his Christology shaped orthodox doctrine. Declared Doctor 1882.
