Rose Philippine Duchesne was a French nun of the Society of the Sacred Heart who pioneered Catholic education in America. At age 49, she traveled to Missouri frontier, establishing schools for European and Native American children. Despite hardship, illness, and language barriers, she persevered for 34 years. Native Americans called her "Woman Who Prays Always." Canonized 1988.
