About Edward the Confessor

Edward was King of England (1042-1066), called "the Confessor" for his piety (confessor meaning one who professes faith, not necessarily a martyr). He ruled justly, was generous to the poor, and remained celibate in his marriage. He built Westminster Abbey. His reign brought peace and prosperity. Canonized 1161.
