About Ferdinand III of Castile

Ferdinand III was King of Castile and León who reconquered much of Spain from Muslim rule. Despite being a warrior king, he was known for justice, mercy to defeated enemies, and care for the poor. He built hospitals and churches, including Burgos Cathedral. He united Castile and León, laying foundations for modern Spain. Canonized 1671.
