About Hedwig of Silesia
Hedwig was Duchess of Silesia who used her wealth to found monasteries, hospitals, and leprosariums. She lived austerely despite her rank, practiced severe penances, and personally cared for the sick. After her husband's death, she became a Cistercian nun. She endured her son's death in battle with faith. Canonized 1267.
