About Louis IX of France

Louis IX was King of France, called "Saint Louis," who embodied the ideal Christian monarch. He ruled justly, cared for the poor, built hospitals, and promoted education. He led two Crusades; the second ended with his death from disease in Tunisia. He built Sainte-Chapelle to house Christ's Crown of Thorns. Canonized 1297.
