About Stephen I of Hungary

Stephen I was the first King of Hungary, who converted from paganism and established Christianity as Hungary's religion. He received a crown from Pope Sylvester II in 1000, establishing the Hungarian kingdom. He built churches, established dioceses, promoted education, and ruled justly. His Holy Crown became a national symbol. Canonized 1083.
