About Anne

Anne was the mother of the Virgin Mary and grandmother of Jesus, though not mentioned in Scripture. According to tradition (particularly the Protoevangelium of James), Anne and her husband Joachim were elderly and childless when an angel announced they would have a child. They dedicated Mary to God. Anne represents faithful older women and grandmothers' role in faith transmission.
