About Rose of Lima

Rose of Lima was a Dominican tertiary and the first saint born in the Americas to be canonized. Born in Peru, she took a vow of virginity and lived in a garden hut, practicing extreme penance and contemplative prayer. She cared for the poor and sick in her home while experiencing mystical visions. Her severe penances imitated Catherine of Siena. Canonized 1671.
