Gad was a prophet during King David's reign, mentioned in 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, and 1 Chronicles. He served as David's seer, bringing God's messages to the king, including rebuke for taking a census. Gad wrote a chronicle of David's reign (now lost). He represents the prophetic role of speaking God's word to rulers. Venerated in some traditions as an Old Testament prophet.
