Zephaniah was an Old Testament prophet during King Josiah's reign. He prophesied the Day of the Lord—judgment on Judah and nations for sin, but also restoration for a humble remnant. His message balanced judgment and hope. The phrase "Dies Irae" (Day of Wrath) in Christian liturgy draws from Zephaniah. Venerated as one of the minor prophets.
