About Florian of Lorch

Florian was a Roman army officer in Noricum (Austria) who became a Christian. During Diocletian's persecution, he refused to execute Christians and declared his own faith. He was tortured and drowned in the Enns River with a millstone around his neck. Legend says that when a fire threatened a town, Florian doused it with a single bucket of water. He became patron of firefighters and is invoked against fire and drowning.
