Longinus

About Longinus

Longinus is traditionally identified as the Roman centurion who pierced Christ's side with a lance at the Crucifixion. According to tradition, Christ's blood healed Longinus's poor eyesight, and he converted, leaving the army. He became a monk in Cappadocia and preached the Gospel. When persecutors came, he confessed his faith and was martyred by beheading. The "Holy Lance" became a revered relic. While historical details are uncertain, Longinus represents the conversion of those who witnessed Christ's death.
