About Lucia Yi Zhenmei

Lucia Yi Zhenmei was a Chinese laywoman and one of the Martyrs of China. A devout Catholic, she was arrested during the persecution of Christians in China. Refusing to apostatize, she was tortured and beheaded in 1862 at age 47. She was canonized in 2000 along with 119 other Chinese martyrs, representing the thousands of Chinese Christians who died for their faith during persecutions of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
