About Philomena
Philomena's remains were discovered in the Catacombs of Priscilla in 1802, identified by symbols on her tomb as a young martyr. Devotion spread rapidly after many miracles were reported at her shrine in Mugnano. The Curé of Ars promoted her devotion. However, in 1961, her liturgical celebration was suppressed due to lack of historical evidence, though private devotion continues. Her story represents the tension between popular piety and historical accuracy.
