About Romuald of Ravenna

Romuald was an Italian monk who founded the Camaldolese Order, combining eremitic and cenobitic monasticism. Born to nobility, he became a monk after witnessing his father kill a man in a duel. Romuald lived as a wandering hermit, establishing hermitages and reforming monasteries throughout Italy. His foundation at Camaldoli created a unique system: hermits living in individual cells around a church, balancing solitude with community. His reforms influenced monastic renewal in the 11th century.
