About Ivo of Kermartin

Ivo was a Breton priest and lawyer famous for defending the poor for free. Trained in theology and law in Paris and Orléans, Ivo became an ecclesiastical judge known for fairness, incorruptibility, and advocacy for the poor against the rich. He gave away his wealth, lived simply, and personally cared for the sick and dying. After years as a judge, Ivo became a parish priest, preaching and teaching while continuing to provide legal help to the poor. He died in 1303. Canonized 1347, he is patron saint of lawyers—unusual since most lawyers aren't saints!
