About Kinga of Poland

Kinga (Cunegunda) was a Hungarian princess who became Queen of Poland through marriage to Boleslaus V. She and her husband took vows of chastity, living as brother and sister. Kinga was known for piety, charity to the poor, and founding churches and monasteries. Legend says she brought salt mining to Poland—throwing her engagement ring into a Hungarian salt mine, which miraculously appeared in a Polish salt mine. After Boleslaus's death, Kinga became a Poor Clare nun. Canonized 1999.
