About Adelaide of Italy

Adelaide was Queen of Italy, then Holy Roman Empress, known for piety and peacemaking. Widowed young and imprisoned by her kingdom's usurper, she escaped and married Otto I of Germany, becoming empress. Adelaide worked for Church reform, founded monasteries, and acted as regent for her grandson Otto III. Despite court intrigues, she remained devoted to prayer and charity. She died in the monastery she founded at Selz in 999.
