About Catherine of Bologna

Catherine of Bologna was a Poor Clare nun, mystic, writer, and artist. Born to nobility, Catherine was educated at court before joining a religious community. She experienced mystical visions, including of the infant Jesus. Catherine wrote "The Seven Spiritual Weapons" and painted miniatures and illuminations. As abbess of a Poor Clare monastery in Bologna, she governed with wisdom. After her death, her body remained incorrupt and seated upright in a chapel, where it can still be seen today. She is patron of artists.
