About Toribio Romo

Toribio Romo González was a Mexican priest martyred during the Cristero War. During fierce anti-Catholic persecution, Father Toribio ministered to the faithful secretly. In 1928, soldiers surrounded his church and shot him while he was hiding. He died forgiving his killers. Toribio was canonized in 2000 with 24 other Mexican martyrs. He has become a popular saint among Mexican immigrants to the United States, who report miraculous help crossing the border and finding work. His shrine in Jalisco attracts thousands of pilgrims.
