About Ursula Ledóchowska

Ursula Ledóchowska was a Polish nun who founded the Ursulines of the Agonizing Heart of Jesus (Grey Ursulines). Born to Polish nobility in Austria, Ursula joined the Ursulines and served as superior in Russia. When expelled from Russia, she established a new congregation in Poland focused on education of girls, especially the poor. During WWI, she provided relief to refugees and war victims. Ursula's congregation spread to multiple countries. She was beatified in 1983 and canonized in 2003.
