About Amos

Amos was an Old Testament prophet, a shepherd from Tekoa called by God to prophesy to the Northern Kingdom of Israel around 760-750 BC. Though not from a prophetic school, Amos delivered God's message denouncing Israel's injustice, oppression of the poor, and empty religious ritual. His famous lines include: "Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream" (Amos 5:24). Amos emphasized that true religion requires social justice, not just sacrifice. He is venerated as one of the twelve minor prophets.
