About Azariah

Azariah appears in Scripture, most notably as one of Daniel's three companions thrown into the fiery furnace (given the Babylonian name Abednego). Azariah and his companions Hananiah (Shadrach) and Mishael (Meshach) refused to worship Nebuchadnezzar's golden statue and were miraculously preserved in the fire. Their courage in refusing idolatry made them models of faithful witness under persecution. The Prayer of Azariah is included in the deuterocanonical additions to Daniel.
