About Pope Felix I

Felix I was Pope from 269-274 during a crucial period for the early Church. His pontificate occurred during the temporary peace following Emperor Valerian's persecution and before Diocletian's severe persecution began. Felix opposed the heresy of Paul of Samosata, who denied Christ's divinity, and supported the Council of Antioch's condemnation of this teaching. He sent letters defending orthodox Christology throughout the Church. Felix also dealt with the Sabellian heresy. Tradition holds that he was martyred, though this is disputed by modern historians who believe he died peacefully. He was buried in the Cemetery of Callixtus. Felix's defense of Christ's divinity against early Christological heresies helped preserve orthodox doctrine. His feast day was celebrated on May 30, though liturgical reforms have affected his universal celebration.
