About Acacius of Armenia

Acacius was a centurion in the Roman army who was martyred for his Christian faith. According to tradition, he served in Armenia and openly professed Christianity despite the dangers during the Diocletian persecution. When commanded to sacrifice to pagan gods, Acacius refused and boldly proclaimed his faith in Christ. He declared that he served the one true God and would not worship idols. For his refusal and Christian testimony, Acacius was subjected to torture and beheaded around 303 AD. His courage inspired many witnesses to convert to Christianity. Acacius is particularly venerated in the Eastern Church as a military martyr who chose eternal life over earthly career and safety. He represents Christian soldiers who faced the conflict between military duty to pagan Rome and fidelity to Christ. His feast is celebrated on March 31 in the Eastern Orthodox tradition.
