Saint Eustace was a Roman general named Placidus who converted to Christianity after experiencing a divine vision of Christ between a stag's antlers while hunting—a symbol that remains closely associated with him. After his conversion, he was baptized with his family and took the name Eustace.

His life became a series of hardships, including the loss and miraculous reunion with his family. Eventually, Eustace was discovered to be a Christian during Hadrian’s reign and was ordered to renounce his faith. Refusing, he was martyred along with his wife and sons in a brutal execution.

Saint Eustace is venerated as a symbol of faithfulness through trials and is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers, invoked in times of adversity. His story, though legendary, inspired many in medieval Christianity.
