About Agathopodes

Agathopodes is remembered as a deacon at Thessalonica and as a martyr alongside a reader whom the French bishops' calendar calls Théodore and Orthodox calendars call Theodulus. The pair, their ministerial roles, and the city anchor a recognizable cult. A current Catholic martyrology listing places them on April 4. The calendar supplies a commemoration, not a secure birth date, length of service, or day of death. Nothing reliable here describes Agathopodes's family, training, or daily service in the community.

The Greek calendar of Apostoliki Diakonia names Agathopodes and Theodoulos on April 4. The Orthodox Church in America commemorates Agathopodes and Theodulus on April 5. This difference belongs to the calendars, not to two distinct martyrdoms. Keeping the dates and names visible respects both witnesses.

The OCA retells a Passion in which the pair refuse to abandon Christianity and are cast into the sea. Its speeches and judicial sequence are received tradition, not independently documented events. No exact year or personal words are assigned here.
