About Agnes of Poitiers

Agnes followed Radegund into the community of the Holy Cross at Poitiers and became its abbess. The church biography describes her consecration by Germanus of Paris.

It connects the community’s rule with Caesarius of Arles and records disputes over ecclesiastical jurisdiction. Venantius Fortunatus knew Agnes and left poems describing her religious leadership.

She died in 588 and was buried near Radegund.
