Biography
Balderic of Montfaucon

About Balderic of Montfaucon
Balderic of Montfaucon was an abbot in seventh-century Gaul, remembered for establishing communities of monks and women religious. The church account associates him with the Merovingian family of Austrasia, but rejects the claim that he was a son of King Sigebert III.
It identifies Bova as his sister and says that she became the first abbess of Saint-Pierre in Reims. Balderic founded the monastery of Montfaucon and became its first abbot.
He also supported the community at Reims, giving his remembered work a place in the histories of two monasteries. His death is placed around 640; the account records different feast dates rather than an exact day of death.
