Barsanuphius

About Barsanuphius

Barsanuphius was a sixth-century anchorite near Gaza whose advice survives in a large collection of replies shared with John the Prophet. About 850 responses are arranged by correspondent, not as a chronological life. The letters illuminate his spiritual reach; further ascetic details in the Orthodox Church in America’s account remain received tradition, and its miracle stories are not independently established here.
