About Bernard of Valdeiglesias

Bernard of Valdeiglesias is remembered as a Spanish monk whose remains were honored at Candeleda. The Cistercian menology cited by the church biography gives little further information about him.

His association with Valdeiglesias and even his membership in the Cistercian order are uncertain. Later monastic writers recounted miracles, including a journey across a river using his cloak as a boat.

These stories belong to his devotional tradition rather than an established itinerary. The account places his death after 1155 but notes that the Bollandists dated him only broadly to the twelfth or thirteenth century.
