Bede presents Boisil as a priest and prior at Melrose who welcomed and taught Cuthbert. Bede attributes the welcome story to Sigfrid, who said he witnessed it, and also recounts Boisil’s final illness and conversations with Cuthbert. These are Bede’s hagiographic testimony; later references do not settle an exact death date or birthplace.
