About Bononio

Bononio, called Bononius in Latin, was a monk from Bologna who became abbot of Lucedio. The church biography says that he first lived as a Benedictine monk in Bologna, then as a hermit near Cairo.

It credits him with helping to secure the release of Peter, bishop of Vercelli, after Peter was captured following the defeat at Stilo in 982. Peter later appointed him to lead Lucedio, where he worked to renew monastic discipline and improve conditions for people on its lands.

He died at Lucedio in 1026. The entry also records a different version linking him with Romuald, so that relationship is not asserted as settled history.
