About Branwalator
Branwalator, often called Branwalader, is remembered as a Celtic monk associated with Jersey, Cornwall and Samson of Dol. His possible role as a bishop and the accounts of his ancestry remain uncertain.
The church biography records that King Athelstan gave relics attributed to him to the monastery at Milton in 935. Sources disagree about whether those relics were an arm or a head, illustrating the limits of the later accounts.
His cult was nevertheless established by the tenth century, with appearances in litanies and several local calendars. The name of Saint Brelade on Jersey preserves his memory despite the unresolved details of his life.
