Brendan the Navigator

About Brendan the Navigator

Brendan of Clonfert was an early Irish monastic founder, though the details of his life survive chiefly in later records and religious narratives. Adomnán’s *Life of Columba* names Brendan among four monastic founders who visited Columba on Hinba. Medieval annals preserve conflicting years for Brendan’s death, so this account gives no exact year or death place. His famous voyage belongs to the later *Navigatio*, a religious literary work rather than a contemporary travel record.
