About Calocerus
The February 11 Roman Martyrology remembers Calocerus as bishop and confessor of Ravenna. A late antique Passion of Apollinaris describes a presbyter Calocerus caring for the Ravenna church while Apollinaris traveled; this is a retrospective hagiographic report rather than a contemporary record. Agnellus’s ninth-century episcopal history later places Calocerus among Ravenna’s early bishops, but modern scholarship treats the chronology of that sequence as insecure. The brief evidence supports Ravenna’s received episcopal memory without an exact life date or a separate map event. The Calocerus commemorated as a martyr of Brescia on April 18 is a different entry and must not be merged into this biography.
