Castulus

About Castulus

The January 12 Roman Martyrology names Castulus among martyrs in Africa with Zoticus, Rogatus, Modestus, and forty soldiers. It gives no episode, family relationship, exact place, or life date for him alone. A responsible biography can preserve this group commemoration and say how little is known. The Roman Castulus who appears in the later Acts of Sebastian and is commemorated on March 26 is a distinct calendar identity; his palace-service and martyr story must not be moved to the African Castulus.
