Cedd

About Cedd
Cedd was a seventh-century Northumbrian missionary and bishop. Bede says Cedd preached among the Middle Angles and East Saxons, organized churches in Essex, and founded a monastery at Lastingham. Bede also places Cedd at the Synod of Whitby in 664 and reports that he died during a plague later that year. These details are known chiefly through Bede’s retrospective account; the exact year of Lastingham’s foundation remains uncertain.
