About Celsus

The January 9 Roman Martyrology includes Celsus, described as a boy, among the people said to have suffered with Julian at Antioch. It names his mother Marcionilla but supplies no childhood history or separate episode for Celsus. A critical Catholic reference describes the underlying Julian and Basilissa Acts as a pious romance, so this short account attributes the martyr grouping to the received narrative rather than asserting its episodes as independently verified history. He must be kept distinct from the Milanese Celsus commemorated with Nazarius on July 28.
