About Chrysogonus

The 24 November Catholic commemoration identifies Chrysogonus as a martyr of Aquileia. An early martyrology also associates his name with Aquileia, while a Roman church bearing his name later helped spread his cult. The familiar story linking him with Anastasia comes from a later passion and does not establish a secure personal chronology. A same-named founder of the Roman church may have been a different person; this account concerns the Aquileian martyr named by the catalog's 24 November source.
