Concordius of Spoleto

About Concordius of Spoleto

The surviving account of Concordius’s life is a passion preserved in medieval manuscripts, not a contemporary record. The Orthodox Church in America retells its story: Concordius serves as a subdeacon in Rome, is arrested and released to Bishop Anthimus, receives ordination as a presbyter, and is later arrested and executed. A manuscript catalog records a passion by the early ninth century, while a deed of 1064 documents a monastery dedicated to San Concordio at Spoleto. These sources attest an old narrative tradition and medieval local veneration; they do not verify the passion’s second-century setting or its detailed episodes.
