About Dathus

Ravenna’s ninth-century bishop-history by Agnellus includes a *Life of Datus* in its episcopal sequence. Its brief account praises his piety, night prayer, and preaching and says that some reported his burial at the church of Saint Probus. It supplies no secure chronology, and the burial itself is explicitly uncertain. The Roman Martyrology remembers Dathus as bishop and confessor on July 3; a concise biography should distinguish that liturgical identity from the much later narrative witness.
