About Domnius

Domnius is remembered as a bishop of Salona. A later legend placed him among the disciples of Jesus and made Peter responsible for sending him to Dalmatia.

The more credible account places his episcopate in the third century and his martyrdom in 304, during Diocletian’s persecution.

Veneration grew around his tomb at Salona and later at Split. The cathedral associated with his name preserves that memory in the city that succeeded the ancient settlement.

His commemoration in the Roman Martyrology is on April 11. The apostolic-era legend must be distinguished from the later Roman setting of his martyrdom.
