About Eugendus

The Life of the Jura Fathers presents Eugendus as entering Condat in childhood, sharing and succeeding to its leadership, rebuilding after a fire, and dying at the monastery. These episodes come from early monastic hagiography rather than independent contemporary records. Modern scholarship dates the work around 520, while reference accounts give a range rather than a secure death year. The Roman Martyrology lists Eugendus among January 1 commemorations.
