Kunigunde of Rapperswil

About Kunigunde of Rapperswil
Kunigunde of Rapperswil is remembered through a pilgrimage legend connected with Ursula. The Norwegian church notice describes her as one of Ursula's companions who died on the return journey from Rome. It presents this story as legendary tradition.
The Norway notice associates her death with Rapperswil by Lake Zurich.
The local history published by the city of Rheinfelden instead places the three women's deaths at nearby Rappersweier and their burial at Eichsel.
The Rheinfelden account identifies Kunigunde with Mechtunde and Wibranda in the local cult of three holy women. It records an investigation of that cult by the papal legate Raimund Peraudi in 1504 and the placement of their remains in reliquaries at the church of Saint Gallus.
The same local history describes the continuing Eichsler procession in their honor. This later religious memory is more securely located than the individual itinerary and century assigned to Kunigunde's life.
